THE CHALLENGE

The need behind the project.

Untreated sewage places pressure on Chennai's water bodies and nearby ecosystems. At the same time, landscapes and communities need water for uses that do not require drinking-water quality. The project connects those two needs through treatment and planned reuse.

THE APPROACH

How the project responds.

The project is designed to rehabilitate treatment infrastructure and establish a modular sewage reclamation system. Treatment and polishing are combined with plans for suitable non-drinking applications, including irrigation. The intended use determines the water-quality requirements and operating arrangements.

SIV Impact brings together project development, implementation oversight, technical partners and coordination with relevant public agencies. The work includes defining the treatment and reuse scope, aligning delivery responsibilities and establishing how the system will be operated and monitored.

How performance will be assessed

Performance reporting distinguishes installed equipment and design capacity from actual treated and reused volumes. Flow records and water-quality testing establish how the system performs against its intended uses. The annual water reclamation figure is a project goal, separate from the documented installation milestones.
