With CEMCOT.

Our technical partner in India for water reuse and zero liquid discharge (ZLD). CEMCOT brings experience in shared effluent treatment, water recovery and ZLD systems serving Tamil Nadu’s tannery clusters.

Chennai Environmental Management Company of Tanners (CEMCOT) works with common effluent treatment plants in Tamil Nadu.

Our collaboration connects SIV’s project development and delivery coordination with CEMCOT’s technical experience in wastewater treatment, water recovery and ZLD systems.

CEMCOT’s ZLD project experience

Zero liquid discharge systems recover water for reuse and manage the remaining concentrated waste, with the aim of eliminating liquid effluent discharge. CEMCOT’s published portfolio includes these four projects.

Ranipet, Tamil Nadu

RANITEC

CEMCOT describes a common effluent treatment plant serving 77 tanneries, with treatment capacity of 4,000 m³/day. Its ZLD work combines reverse osmosis, evaporation, salt handling and the return of recovered water to tanneries.

Ranipet, Tamil Nadu

SIDCO Phase I

CEMCOT reports a 2,500 m³/day treatment plant serving 86 member tanneries. The ZLD project combines upgraded treatment, reverse osmosis and evaporation, with metered pipelines returning recovered water to the tanneries.

Ranipet, Tamil Nadu

SIDCO Phase II

A shared treatment system for a cluster of 40 member tanners. The ZLD project includes membrane treatment, evaporation of concentrated reject, salt separation and the return of recovered water. CEMCOT records project completion in March 2013.

Pernambut, Tamil Nadu

PERTEC

A ZLD project for the Pernambut tannery cluster, combining upgrades to effluent treatment, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis, evaporation, and pipelines to return recovered water to tanneries.

Led by Dr. Nisha Priya Mani, Verdure Environmental Foundation is our key India partner for project design, community engagement and needs assessment. Together, we shape projects around local environmental conditions and the priorities of the people who will use and maintain them.

Dr. Nisha also serves as SIV Impact’s Head of Operations, India, connecting environmental science with local project delivery.

  1. Define the project

    Review the water source, demand, intended use and site conditions. Agree the project boundary, delivery responsibilities and performance measures.

  2. Design and cost

    Develop the technical approach and budget. Coordinate with public agencies, utilities and site teams on access, operating needs and required approvals.

  3. Implement and commission

    Manage the agreed delivery scope with specialist partners, coordinate installation and testing, and establish handover responsibilities.

  4. Monitor and maintain

    Agree who operates the system, how it is maintained, and how flows, water quality and performance are recorded and reviewed.
